Gardening Tip of the Week: Providing Water for Bee Pollinators

Help Bees Beat the Heat with a DIY Bee Water Station

As the summer sun blazes down on Clovis, our gardens aren’t the only ones feeling the heat—our buzzing little friends need a cool drink too!

Bees play a vital role in pollinating our fruits, vegetables, and flowers, but did you know they also need regular access to fresh water? Just like us, pollinators can become dehydrated, especially during triple-digit temperatures.

️ DIY Bee Water Station

Creating a bee-friendly watering spot is quick, affordable, and a beautiful way to give back to nature. Here’s how:

You’ll Need:

  • A shallow dish or saucer

  • Marbles, river rocks, or pebbles

  • Fresh, clean water

How to Make It:

  1. Fill your dish with the marbles or pebbles—this gives the bees a place to land safely without the risk of drowning.

  2. Add just enough water so that the tops of the stones remain dry for bees to perch on.

  3. Place the dish in a shady, quiet spot in your garden—ideally near blooming flowers or your vegetable beds.

  4. Refresh the water daily to keep it clean and inviting.

Why It Matters

By offering a water source, you’re not only helping pollinators survive the summer—you’re also supporting the health of your entire garden. Hydrated bees are productive bees, and that means more blooms, more produce, and a happier backyard ecosystem.

This tiny gesture can make a big difference.

So this week, sweet neighbor, take a few minutes to set up a bee hydration station. It’s a small act of kindness that makes our Clovis gardens bloom with life and love.
